Valentine Card #4

I had a bit of time today so I made another Valentine card! This card is 5.5 x 5.5" and made with paper from the very cute Doodlebug Sweetheart 6X6 paper pad. Doodlebug has such cute papers! I also used the C.C Designs Hogs and Kisses stamp, which I think is so adorable.

Since the card is 5.5 x 5.5" square, I cut the pink card stock 5.5 x 5.5". Next I cut the flowered paper at 5 1/4 x 5 1/4"to create a layered effect. I cut the other 2 patterns at 5 1/4" and then cut diagonally to make 2 triangles. I cut 2 strips with the heart border die out of the pink paper and a coordinating patterned paper.  I inked the edges of the doily and the sentiment with distress ink. Glue all the pieces together, attach the ribbon and then adhere all to the pre-made card front. I used foam squares to make the image stand out a bit adding dimension. Place your pearls in the top right corner of the card. On the inside I cut 2 sizes of hearts from the patterned paper as well as one heart and stamped a valentine sentiment. After gluing those on I stamped another image of the pig in the bottom right hand corner. Now sit back and look at your cute Valentine card that you just made!

Wire Ring Journal

Here's a cute journal book I made. Once again one of items I had to have and have hardly used, the Zutter Bind It All. I decided to pull it out along with the chipboard albums covers I have stashed away and make something with this stuff for a change. I also wanted to use up some of my scrapbook paper. You know the kind you buy when you are first starting out in the crafting world. The big huge pads and then later on realize you won't use half of the designs in it lol. Although I like the papers for this project they are not a colour scheme I usually use for card making.I decided to use the chipboard cover 7 1/2 x 5" from Zutter. Not a huge journal but great for writing or saving smaller mementos. 

So here is the step by step:

1. I picked out about 10 sheets of 12x12 matching papers and cut them to 7 5/16 x 4 7/8" in size.
2. Take the Bind It All machine and follow instructions to punch 13 holes in the paper.
3. I took 1 sheet of 12x12 matching paper and cut 2 pieces 7.5 x 5 1/8 ". I cut it a bit bigger than the 5 inches to allow for wrapping around the edge of the chipboard piece. I then glued the paper onto the chipboard.
4. Taking the Bind It All machine I followed the instructions for making a cover and punched 13 holes into it.
5. Thread the wire into the punched holes "bind" your book with the Zutter machine, and voila and you are done!

You can decorate the outside cover if you wish. I decided not to do that until I decide what I want to do with this wire ring book.

That's about it for this project. Now onto more Valentine card making!

Valentine's Cards: Series 1

Whew! I got busy today and created 3 Valentine Day cards like I promised. One of my New Years Resolutions this year was to start using some of the items that I have stock piled in my craft room. Like most crafters we see a "deal" or something "new" and just have to have it, then we stash them away to use at a later date which never seems to happen LOL. So I have decided to try to "curb" my spending until I actually use some of the neat stuff I have bought. All three of these cards are made using 2 sets of Spellbinder dies that I just had to have. I am also trying to get out of my "box" and try new ways of making cards as well. I don't have many Valentine character stamps so the stamped image may look familiar but at least the cards are different. These cards have more layering and use embossing folders which I don't often do.

I think of the three cards this is my favourite. I used multiple layering of Spellbinder coordinating Labels 28 and Decorative Labels 28 dies. I also used an embossing folder as well. On the Brocade embossed card stock I took Tim Holtz distress ink in Victorian Velvet and rubbed it over the raised image for a bit of a coloured look. I also used the distress ink on the Memory Box elegant scroll work die cuts as well. I tried to coordinate the colours in the Magnolia image with my Copic markers but it doesn't show up as well in the pictures. Of course some stickles and glossy accents make everything feel finished.

On this adorable card I layered red and pink card stock for my card base. I used the Decorative Labels 28 and embossed the image on white card stock followed by more layering of Decorative and regular Labels 28 Spellbinder dies. The corner motifs are cut from the Spellbinder Moroccan Accents set with a bling of red hearts in each corner. I stamped the Magnolia image, coloured her with Copics and paper pieced her dress with Valentine themed paper. Once again I love to add stickles and glossy accents at the end which always makes me feel like the card is finished.

This stamp from Whimsy is new for me this year. I think she's cute and can be used for other occasions throughout the year. Using the Dienamics heart border die I embossed a strip on the top and bottom of the card stock base.Once again I used the Spellbinders Decorative Labels 28 and the Labels 28 to create a frame and added Valentine themed paper to the inside of the frame. Pink pearls, stickles, a bow and glossy accents finished off the Copic coloured and fussy cut image.

All three cards are finished on the inside as well, once again using the 2 sets of Spellbinder Labels 28 and a Valentine sentiment stamp. I am hoping to get a few more Valentine cards done within the next few days. It is still freezing here -21 degrees Celsius. Brrrrrrr. Hope everyone is warm where you are. Take care,

BRRRRR……. I hope this finds everyone warm and cozy in their homes! It is so cold out there again! I've been busy doing a few classes for The Art Studio @ SNR magazine and haven't had much time to get something done to show you on here. It's been so much fun taking the classes and completing the projects. I have 2 blog posts to do for them in February and as soon as they are posted I will put the link on here so you can see what I have been doing. Tomorrow I hope to get some Valentine Day cards done and posted for you all to see. So for now keep warm, snuggle with a loved one and I'll chat at you later!

It's been busy few weeks since my last post at Christmas. I am happy to report that my stockings and poinsettia candy boxes were a huge success! Everyone sure enjoyed them and certainly were surprised!

After all the fun of having our families here over Christmas, we left for a week of relaxation in Cuba! We had a wonderful week in the warm sun and were lucky to make it there and back home in-between all the storms and airport problems! I just finished getting all the decorations away and the house is now back in order! I am so excited to get my craft room put back together today. We had turned it back into a bedroom for some of our company to sleep in. I am hoping to get back in there to create tomorrow. It seems so long since I had a chance to do that. I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season!

Chocolate Boxes

I just finished making these cute little boxes to hold a Ghirardelli chocolate for my Christmas table place settings. They were super easy to make and I think they are adorable!

Step 1:  Using my Die-namics Pointsettia die I cut out a set of the large green leaves, 1 large red flower, 2 small red flowers, a small green centre and a yellow stamen.

Step 2:  Then using a pencil I rolled the leaves so that they would stand up a bit to add some dimension to the flower.

Step 3:  Glue the flower pieces together staggering the petals, add the centre and stamen. I used "Bisque"liquid pearls to add dimension to the stamen.

Step 4:  Cut out a piece of 5x5" paper of your choice. Using the We R Memory Makers Envelope Punch Board ( I used red card stock so you can see the lines easier, but when using the patterned paper put the side you want to show on the box face down. Score at the 2" line, and punch a hole

Step 5:  Move the paper over to the 2 5/8" mark score and punch.

Step 6 & 7:  Moving the paper counter clockwise, match up your score lines , punch and score

Step 8:  I'm just showing the "punch" part as I forgot to do it when I scored and had to go back and do it.

Step 9:  Using the corner punch on the envelope board round all 4 corners.

Step 10:  Using your scissors, cut out the "square" on each corner.

Step 11:  Using a bone folder pre-fold all the score lines. Put 2 strips of glue on one of the points.

Step 12:  Fold 2 edges in and then fold the edge with the glue strips adhering into place.

Step 13:  Put your Ghirardelli square in the box and secure the box closed. I used a sticker.

Step 14:  Lastly attach your leaves and poinsettia to the box. I used glue but a glue dot would work wonderfully!

These were so much fun to make! Hope you are enjoying all this snow we've been getting! It's hard to believe Christmas is only 1 week away! Wow times flies!

Operation Christmas Child

Yesterday I had the opportunity to volunteer at the sorting facility for Operation Christmas Child. What an amazing and inspiring organization this is and their idea for the Christmas shoe boxes.

The idea behind the shoe boxes is that the boxes are filled by Canadians with hygiene items, school supplies, toys and candies and given to children regardless of gender, race or religion. What we did at the sorting facility was open up the boxes and check to make sure that they only contained items that are allowed to be shipped to these countries. I opened boxes from as far away as the east coast. What touched me the most was the thoughtfulness and love that "strangers" put into these boxes. So often we get caught up in the "buying" of Christmas that we forget the simple things and that not everyone is as fortunate as us. When you open a box and see it stuffed to the brim with items you know will make a child think they have died and gone to heaven just warms your heart. I can't even begin to describe how this experience touched me. Tim and I are going back on Saturday as I know he will be just as inspired as I was!
